You know that TV show, “What Not To Wear”? I have an idea for them to visit the tennis court. As you can see from some of the following photos, not all fashions have been a HIT on the court.

I like your website. The topic is interesting. I wonder if tennis players are more concerned with staying cool and comfortable in the hot sun. Most of these clothes seemed fine, just hot for the manner in which they have to play.
WOW. These pictures are amazing. Is it going too far to wish stylists upon tennis players? Probably.
I am a big tennis fan. My wife and in-laws made the trip to New York last year for the U.S. Open; our first major. It was fantastic. I noticed you didn’t include many guys. Andre Agassi is of course an easy target back in the late 80′s. When he was a junior he’d go on court with boat shoes and blue jeans and just destroy everyone. I’d also have liked to have seen a shot of Nadal in one of his latest neon getups; especially appropriate for this story would have been him and that pink disaster he wore in I believe the French last year. Not that he had to wear it for too many matches. Ouch.
That ’04 Serena pick is haunting.
Boy are we reality show spoiled. Tennis players, like everyone else, are more than one dementional. If they like or feel the need to express themself flamboyantly, what’s the harm? Did they not play as hard wearing these outfits? I think they still give their all. Have we become so critical that judging someones fashion is more important than the game? For $100,00 I’d wear the Venus Williams’ Gladiator outfit to work, by bus, and gladly take a verbal warning for wearing an inappropriate outfit.

This is so funny! And true! You have some extremes because you have people wearing cute tennis outfits on TV when they are at the country club and stuff. And then you have this. LOL!

These pics are absolutely hilarious. In all fairness the first one was in 1985. We just didn’t know any better.
The pictures are great, even if the outfits aren’t. Just shows you how much fashion changes. Imagine the looks on the faces of our grandchildren when they see pictures of Lady Gaga.
. The stylist sometimes miss it completely.

i gotta agree with all of those except the first one and the one on Andre Agassi. For Andre, that was the style back in the day. Might not be now(and I find that ugly too), but in context to the style in that era, he fit in. And the bodysuit ain’t bad looking at from an athlete’s perspective. It’s a little too much, but it’s not like it’s painted all weird, like a rainbow or something on it.

Comrades, they could have done worse. They could have checked with the boring clodhoppers who check out to see if their shit complies with the PC consensus of a panel of the lowest common denominator of scared assholes. Maybe a Mohawk or two would have livened up this bunch.

Some pretty astounding dress code tennis players have!
But most of what they wear are prob given to them by major brands such as Nike or Puma etc. to test out how the crowd reacts to what they wear before selling it. Its no wonder the clothes were made to make a statement, it appeals to individualism and also the fans of that particular idol.

I happen to like 2010 Bethanie Mattek. But not for tennis.
You made a good point. Some of the outfits sports players wear aren’t very fashionable. But it does have a purpose. As long as they’re not wearing those clothes out in public, they should be fine. Maybe if they’re caught wearing some appaling clothes off the court, then you have something. However, that white bodysuit that the first tennis player is wearing must be uncomfortable and honestly, it’s plain stupid.
