Golf Fashion Faux Pas #1: Capri Pants
As we are nearing March and many of us in the MidWest and East Coast are gearing up for golf season, the garment I dread most of all is once again on catalog covers: Capri Pants.
Ladies, if your goal is to look frumpy and dumpy, then crop pants are the way to go. However, if your goal is to look thinner and taller, may I suggest that you burn your crops.
The capri pants travels down your leg and stops at the most unflattering point, making you look shorter and WIDER. The proportion is wrong. In the words of my stylist friend Noelle, “you look like you are standing in a bucket.” You should opt for either a pant, which makes you look tall and leaner, or a tailored short. Looking taller is key, since height helps to balance width.
I’ve heard many people say that capris are perfect for the spring because pants are too hot. Is that 6 inch exposure of your calf really making you cooler? And if you are that hot, why not just wear a tailored short?
There has been lots of discussion recently about how men don’t want to play with women on the course. While there are many reasons, I think we can add one more. Capris are consistently rated one of the worst looks by men. They hate them.
So while you may be tempted during the multitude of President Sales this weekend to buy capris — don’t be a fashion victim this spring. Burn the capris and then buy a dress.
PS If you are looking to get rid of the muffin top too, check out www.smashingonline.com and use code LEAP29 for 29% off until Feb 29th.
Spinner is Managing Partner of Smashing Golf & Tennis and mother of 3. She cringes at the sight of capri pants and will be traveling in her golf cart with a pair of cutting shears this season. She is thinking of changing Smashing’s tagline to : Just wear a skort

Oh no… I’m glad you told me. I am totally guilty. I’m short so capris don’t need to be hemmed! I think I knew deep down inside that hey didn’t look good. Thank you for laying it down – hahaha!
