Does Size Really Matter?

March 1, 2010

Why do designers insist on torturing us?

Waists that pinch, hemlines that are too short, sleeves that hang — a size 8 will be different from label to label. It is incredibly frustrating.

There is nothing worse than thinking you are a size 8.  Having an entire closet full of size 8 clothing and then you order from a new catalog.  You get that new dress in an 8 and it is so snug, you are not sure your 9 yr old daughter could fit in it.  This throws you into a 3-day fast of celery and water and a workout regimen that puts Jilian’s last chance workouts (Biggest Loser) to shame.

Why do we care so much what that tag says?  Some say “cut it out.”  But the problem is, I already saw the tag and so know that I’m in the “beached whale” section of this designer.  It is too depressing.

Well, now we are at a point where we are determining what our sizing will be.  I’m thinking we shouldn’t do sizing.  You plug in your measurements and then we’ll send you the garment.  It will have a size 0 tag.  Of course, some will say, “what?!?  I’m not a 00!!”  Break out the celery.

Excellent idea about measurements!! Men’s clothes go by nice objective inches, why must women gamble on a variable size? Looking forward to ordering by inches!

let’s just hope, unlike a drivers license, women give their real measurements 🙂
