You are not “fan worthy”

March 30, 2010

OMG, is it possible that I’m the first person ever to get denied membership into a group on LinkedIn?  Seriously is this rush?  Was there a pro/con/pro vote among the creators?

It reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Elaine determined if suitors were “sponge worthy.”  Apparently, I am not “fan worthy.”

The reason they gave for denial was “Currenty we are limited to how many people we can admit for each type of business. We are sorry to have to decline your membership, we have an excess of people similar to you.”  It is the anti-Stepford wife group.   What does “excess of people similar to you” mean?  Too many women (it is a woman’s networking group)? Too many blondes (ok, bottle blonde)?  Too many hysterically funny women?

Isn’t the point of networking to reach out to as many people as possible?

Whatever.  I know there are a million other groups on LinkedIn to join, but whenever you get denied membership it does sting a little bit.  I’m tempted to list the group’s name so the 30 readers of our blog can boycott them.  But I’m not that type.  (However, I am the type to pull ponytails, so watch out ladies)

We want to let you know that you can ALL become our fans of smashing.  We will never deny you membership — we love and value you all.

Or perhaps they knew you like to give everyone nicknames and they were afraid of what you’d come up with for them! lol

yes, Buzzkill, you are a very unique person so you were granted admittance. I’m obviously a “dime a dozen” blonde marketer that was black balled 🙂
